`what's your story?;;
History: Every stroy has a beginning, and the tale of Juniper James is no different. Her father, Tyler, had a history of substance abuse- and it was running from another of his 'episodes' that Juniper decided to make her entry into the world three weeks early. And perhaps the back seat of a New York taxi isn't the most glamorous (or sanitary!) locations to be born- well, according her her mother, Jun was in too much of a hurry to wait for the hospital.
With the birth of their daughter, Tyler and his wife, Patricia, decided to do their best to make their happy little family unit work. Juniper watched her father volley back and forth between different jobs; sometime vanishing for weeks on end without warning. In order to keep the debt collectors at bay, and to support her husband's habits, Patricia worked two, and sometimes three jobs; and the little girl was often left to her own devices.
Her small circle of friends thought that it was the coolest thing ever to have so much freedom, and she never argued with them. Quietly though, she thought it would be so much nicer to have a mother that was home when you got there, and didn't accidentally lock you out. Still, sitting on the front steps for hours did give her ample time to people-watch the comings and goings in their little run down neighbourhood. A talent, an interest, that would remain untapped until much later.
But the time she started high school, Juniper had already started slipping off the bandwagon. Having never heard of such things as 'addictive behaviour', she saw nothing wrong with experimenting, just the same as her other friends. But unlike them, once she had a taste of the lifestyle, it was impossibly hard to break free of it. Without the supportive backing of a loving family, it was easier just to slip deeper and deeper into the thrall of intoxicated oblivion.
Shortly after her twentieth birthday, a fight with her then-boyfriend turned violent. And while it far from the first time, it was the catalyst that changed her life. Three stab wounds to the stomach take a long time to heal, and, quite obviously, they don't allow heroin in hospitals. Her mind fogged by anesthesia, Juniper suddenly realized exactly where her life was going. And in that moment, begged the nurses to help her.
They did. And in the year following, Juniper struggled to piece herself back together a life- beginning with cutting out all the toxic elements from the past. Working at a small bookstore, and moving back to her mother's home (who, now that her father had finally vanished from the face of the Earth, was much happier,) Juniper decided that, if she could overcome the drugs, the lifestyle and everything else, then why not push the envelope further? See if she really was just a slightly smarter copy of her father's mistakes.
Enrolling in college was one of the scariest things she has ever done, and now, very shortly after her 21st birthday, Juniper is finally able to look herself in the mirror and see a real person. The challenge will be keeping on with the progress she's made. Eventually her goal is to make a difference, and make her mark of good on the world.
